|30th session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)|
General Director of the Shipping Register of Ukraine Kyrylo Shalamay as a member of the Ukrainian
delegation led by the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan
took part in the 30th session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO),
which is being held at the IMO headquarters in London.
Sessions of the IMO Assembly are held once every two years. During the meetings, authorized representatives of IMO member states approve the programs of work of the committees, vote for the budget, choose the composition of the IMO Council and adopt strategic decisions for maritime navigation. The participation of the Ukrainian delegation in the current session is of utmost importance for the protection of Ukraine's interests in the development of maritime transport infrastructure and is particularly important in preparation for the IMO audit, which will be held in June 2018.
During the assembly negotiations were also held between the Shipping Register of Ukraine and the representatives of the maritime administrations of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan on deepening cooperation with the aim of enhancing the safety of navigation in the Caspian region.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that deals with the safety of navigation and the prevention of pollution by ships of the world's oceans. Ukraine has been a member of IMO since 1994.
